This review article considered the impact of human milk on circadian rhythms and potential impact on infant health. The authors reviewed research considering that expressed human milk is typically not fed at the time it is pumped and that this “mismatched” milk may in turn potentially contribute to sleep problems and decreased physiological attunement with their mothers and environment. Recommendations for future research, practice, and policy are provided.
