St. Joseph's Healthcare - In January of 2007, Timeless Medical Systems deployed the Timeless Mother’s Own Milk System at the St Joseph’s Healthcare Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in London, Ontario.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Developmental Follow Up Clinic at St. Joseph's Healthcare specializes in the care of premature newborn infants. Part of this care includes the feeding of a mother's expressed breast milk to these infants.
The primary purpose of the Mother’s Own Milk System is to ensure the correct administration of expressed breast milk at every feeding. Since the implementation of the Timeless Mother’s Own Milk System at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, there have been no milk mix ups.
The Timeless Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) is a wireless (browser based, client-server), real-time, HIPAA compliant, bar-coding system that uses handheld computers to help Neonatology professionals eliminate patient misidentification and medical mismatches of breast milk in the NICU/PICU.
The Mother’s Own Milk system accomplishes this by following three simple steps: 1) assigning unique (no two are ever the same) bar code identifiers to all staff, all storage containers/bottles, all mothers and all babies, 2) managing validated receipt into storage and correct identification of the mother’s milk for feeding, and 3) cross-matching the mother’s milk with her child.
The entire process of storage and administration of human breast milk at St. Joseph’s is managed by the Mother’s Own Milk System. The system provides a comprehensive audit trail with in depth reporting capabilities to ensure Health Canada compliance and JCAHO/FDA regulatory compliance in the US. The customized reports have assisted St. Joseph’s NICU in eliminating paperwork by giving them the ability to print off needed information with the click of a button.
