DementiaGuide Inc. is dedicated to improving the lives of people living with dementia. From its beginnings in February 2000, the individuals who make up DementiaGuide Inc. have worked diligently in research and development to create a tool which provides simple and comprehensive management of dementia symptoms. 

Over ten years of research has gone into the development of an easy to use, informative web enabled method to track symptom's and create a profile that can be used by persons with dementia and their care givers.  The www.DementiaGuide.ca SymptomGuide™ is the end result of this research and allows for a one-stop resource for extensive information on all of the symptoms of dementia.  It contains descriptions of the most common symptoms, and lets a user create a profile of symptoms of the person affected with dementia.  A user can also rank these symptoms according to their prevalence and influence over pre-symptomatic behavior.  The SymptomGuide™ is a system that identifies and tracks symptoms over time, allowing those involved the ability to set goals for managing dementia.

The term dementia refers to a chronic, usually progressive problem of cognition that usually affects memory and almost always affects judgment, decision-making and relationships with others. It can be as frustrating for the person experiencing its symptoms as it is for the caregiver.

Dr. Kenneth Rockwood, President and CEO, is the driving force behind this project and an expert in his field. Dr. Rockwood has practiced medicine for nearly 25 years and has published more than 200 scientific papers and six books. He has received awards for research yearly for the last 20 years and treated over 3000 persons with dementia while working closely with their care givers and family members. The information and knowledge in SymptomGuide™ has been prepared based on Dr. Rockwood’s work experience and the insight which he has gained over the years as a physician and researcher.

Timeless Medical Systems was chosen earlier this year as DementiaGuide Inc.’s  technology partner to translate Dr. Rockwood’s research into an easy to use, intuitive web environment and implement the envisioned SymptomGuide™ and all aspects of www.DementiaGuide.ca.  After 6 months of development the SymptomGuide™ application has entered a closed 3 month Beta Testing Cycle and will publicly launch in October 2006.
